CEO and Founder of Promising Prep
Veronica S. Hill, LICSW, LCSW-C Veronica S. Hill Is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and the Founder of Promising Prep. As a North Carolina native, growing up she observed the lack of resources and outlets for Black girls in her rural community. However, as she matriculated through her education and relocated to the Washington Metropolitan area she realized that this was not an isolated problem to rural communities. This began her research at Howard University to understand the effects of not building a community that supports Black girls' mental health. She has designed this therapy practice to be a safe place for Black and Brown girls to relate, share, communicate, and express themselves without judgement and restrictions.

Promising Prep Vision Statement

Who We Are
Promising Prep is a therapy practice dedicated to supporting the mental health of Black and Brown girls and women in the District of Columbia and surrounding areas. The word Promising is defined as having a lot of potential or someone with a bright future. At Promising Prep, we assist or 'prep' our clients with the necessary tools to achieve success. Our mission is to create safe spaces where these individuals can evolve into the best versions of themselves. We are committed to offering a supportive, culturally-competent environment that nurtures healing, self-discovery, and personal growth.
How We Do It
We understand that Girls of Color (GOC) and Women of Color (WOC) face unique mental health challenges, including systemic inequities, historical trauma, and cultural stigmas. These challenges can create significant barriers to care. To address these disparities, Promising Prep offers culturally competent, evidence-based interventions that are tailored to the specific needs of our clients. Our therapeutic approach is built on empathy, understanding, and a commitment to providing an affirming environment where clients can feel seen, heard, and supported.
What We Do
At Promising Prep, we provide individual and group therapy services, products, and programs tailored to the needs of Black and Brown girls and women. We specialize in delivering clinical-based interventions that inspire clients to reach their personal outcomes, focusing on emotional intelligence, academic excellence, mental health education, and goal-setting. Our services help clients manage anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges, while empowering them to heal and thrive.
Why We Do It
Promising Prep was founded on the belief that everyone deserves access to healing spaces. Through our research, we identified a critical gap in support and an urgent need to address the mental health crisis affecting Black and Brown women and girls in America. Studies show that Black women are disproportionately affected by mental health challenges. They are more likely to experience depression, anxiety, and trauma, often due to systemic racism, cultural stigmas, and historical trauma.

According to the American Psychological Association (2020), Black women are less likely to seek mental health care because of these barriers, despite experiencing a higher prevalence of mental health issues compared to other groups. At Promising Prep, we are committed to providing culturally competent and accessible care to close this gap. Our work is driven by a vision of empowerment and support, aiming to create a community where mental health is treated with the respect, care, and attention it deserves. We strive to equip our clients with the necessary tools and resources to navigate their challenges and thrive in every aspect of their lives, ensuring they have access to the healing and mental health support they so critically need.
What Can You Do
Your support can make a significant impact in the lives of the girls and women we serve. Referrals and donations help us expand our programs, increase access to services, and build stronger connections with local schools, community organizations, and other service providers. With your help, we can continue to address the systemic challenges that often intersect with mental health in underserved populations and ensure that every Black and Brown girl has access to the healing, support, and empowerment they need.
